Elevator Mounting to Stabiliser (2h)

The last post was lame, this one even more so. With the help of my wife’s Uncle Allen, we got the elevator mounted to the stabiliser

and made sure that we got the proper 28 degrees of deflection in both directions by grinding away bits of metal that were in the way.

Basically a lot of installing, measuring, uninstalling, grinding, rinse and repeat. Once the limits were enabled I cut the plastic lower control stop to shape and riveted it to the elevator. So far I have not bolted the upper control stop to the stab.

The astute amongst you will notice the gold clecos on the ends of the elevator. When the two tail parts were together the elevator did not sit level across the back of the tail so we drilled some ‘new’ holes at a larger size in order to fix it. It is much better now, hopefully I will not be flying in circles.

It is interesting to revisit these old parts. I don’t think I kid myself that if I was able to go back and do them again I would do a much better job, but they sure seem a long way off the ‘quality’ that I can produce now. The rudder you say?? Yes, be afraid.
