Still making progress little by little… today I set the location of the trailing edge by measuring the distance from the edge of the radius to the centre hole in the flaperon arm. The instructions have changed from Edition 2 to Edition 3, before we measured 70 mm from top to radius, now it is 80mm from centre to radius. Much easier this way.<\/p>\n

With the edge clamped to the skeleton at each end, tape at various locations along the edge, I pilot drilled along the length of the edge.

(Astute readers might spot a difference between this picture and a similar one yesterday.)<\/p>\n

It was at this point that I discovered a mistake. One edge goes inside another and when I went to drill the holes where they meet I found that the holes were on the part that was inside the other. Dang! I was able to use a hole finder to drill the holes but I was bothered by this:

\nThat notch on the end should be inside and I was worried that being on the outside it might fray. But to fix this I would have to remove all the rivets on the bottom of one of the skins (plus some others) and that would be a truly demoralising task. <\/p>\n

I had wanted to get the top skin drilled out but wasn’t really in the mood any more so I just drilled the top skin ribs to their final size before calling it a day.

UPDATE! I emailed Zenith to ask about the trailing edge and much to my pleasure Caleb said that I could leave the trailing edge how it was, the notch will be fine so long as it doesn’t get physically damaged. No unriveting (for now!).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
