{"id":254,"date":"2011-03-27T18:47:14","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T02:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stol750project.info\/?p=254"},"modified":"2011-03-27T18:47:14","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T02:47:14","slug":"day-37-more-stabilizer-skin-and-rear-1hr-30m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stol750project.info\/?p=254","title":{"rendered":"Day 37: More Stabilizer Skin and Rear Bracket (1hr 30m)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In keeping with the general build plan, the next phase of the tail construction was to drill out all the holes to ye olde A4 rivet size.<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5307\/5568183987_635b1c9d61.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" class=\"aligncenter\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\nThis completes the skin, spar and ribs preparation, they now need to be deburred and riveted.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I had cut out the shape for the rear bracket and now the hinge gusset needs to be marked and drilled to the bracket and hinge. The hinge bracket is pre-drilled for the rear bracket but the rear bracket does not have holes for the gusset. The position of the gusset is determined by measuring down from the top of the bracket and placing the gusset up against the hinge.<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5109\/5568772956_910d788466.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" class=\"aligncenter\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\nOnce clamped in place I drilled through the gusset into the rear bracket and then through the gusset into the hinge bracket.<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5174\/5568185281_ee473571f7.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" class=\"aligncenter\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\nFor grins I cleco&#8217;d the assembly onto the spar just to see how it goes. All the holes in the rear bracket have to be opened up to an A5 rivet except for two holes on the gusset which take some kind of bolt (3\/16th hole).<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5026\/5568186043_de5ee4b3e5.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" class=\"aligncenter\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\nMost everything for the stabilizer is now drilled out, all that is left is to drill the holes I mentioned above. After that there is a ton of holes to deburr &#8211; joy! After that I&#8217;ll start to rivet everything together, starting with the spar and then adding the skin.
