The 750 has an electric trim tab so installation comprises two parts: placing the trim tab inside the rear skin, and installing the servo motor inside to operate it.<\/p>\n

The trim tab has no pre-drilled holes so the first task was to draw a line 8mm from the edge and marks holes at approximately 40mm intervals.

\nAnd then a size 40 drill bit is used to make the holes.
\n\"\"
\nThe trim tab hinge then gets inserted between the edges of the trim tab and pushed in as far as you can without the hinge rubbing on the edge. This seemed to take me a lot of time to get right, probably worrying too much. Once clamped in place I drilled through the holes I just made into the hinge, and opened them to A4.

\nI then took the trim tab assembly and placed it inside the rear skin, again trying hard to get the hinge close to but not up against the spar and skin. Once I thought I had it good enough I drilled through the pre-drilled holes in the skin through the hinge.

\nI experimented with the travel in the tab and it seemed pretty good. <\/p>\n

It’s summer in the desert and the temperatures are now up to 100 and beyond (yesterday was 115) but usually “it’s a dry heat” so working in the garage isn’t too bad but today it was 60% humidity and I was sweating just standing still. So I decided to call it a day but I would do one last thing: the trim tab horn.<\/p>\n

The horn attaches to the servo rod from the electric motor and moves the tab up and down. The horn’s location is not marked so you have to determine it by aligning it with the centre of the servo opening and, from the suggestion of the DVD, with the rod itself.

Once I was happy with the position I drilled through the horn into the trim tab and then one more time for an A4 rivet.

I had hoped to get the servo installed today but there was no way I could continue to stay outside!<\/p>\n

And in other dashed hopes news, the wings kit is being shipped quite a bit earlier than had been predicted and I only have one more weekend left before it is here. No way I can get the tail finished by then.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
