{"id":772,"date":"2014-12-13T15:30:12","date_gmt":"2014-12-13T23:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stol750project.info\/?p=772"},"modified":"2014-12-13T15:30:12","modified_gmt":"2014-12-13T23:30:12","slug":"cleaning-the-wings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stol750project.info\/?p=772","title":{"rendered":"Cleaning the wings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While looking at a suggested paint system from Stewart Systems, I noticed this product of theirs called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stewartsystems.aero\/products\/105\/ekoetch-quart\" title=\"EkoEtch\">EkoEtch<\/a> that is an aluminium primer that, amongst other things, is effective against oxidisation.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8610\/15827419278_35349bbf12_z.jpg?resize=480%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Intrigued I ordered a quart from Aircraft Spruce and used it on a scrap skin piece that was fairly badly oxidised. A couple of applications and I had this<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7568\/15392561374_50bd32699a_z.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Very little effort and it is almost entirely clean! I think with a less diluted mixture I could have done it in one go. This is highly preferable to my current technique but it needs a water source for rinsing and a place for water to run off so I would have to drag the wing out to the aircraft cleaning area &#8211; and hope the wind doesn&#8217;t blow it away.<\/p>\n<p>Of most concern is how safe it is on the metal. I don&#8217;t know much about metal but I&#8217;ve read that the aluminium used on our kits is of a certain kind and you can&#8217;t use certain polishes on it.
