Studying the plans some more (and looking at some pictures on the builders site) I noticed that the all the flanges go inside the side skins, so my top skin was in fact fine. But my l-angles should also have been inside, and I can see that would give a much cleaner look though I kinda like the “home built” look it gives having them outside. Of course I say that since I have no intention of fixing it.

Here is the installed console.

I still need to finish the holes over the torque tube, the plans call for that to be riveted but that seems to defeat the point of the nutplates if I have to unrivet to get the console out. For another day. I was surprised to feel that the assembly is remarkably rigid.

I also spent a little time marking and drilling the holes for the engine bolts on the engine mount.

and then used the drill press to work my way up to the final size.

The biggest drill bit I had was 3/8 and the bolts are a metric M10 (damn those Europeans and their sensible measuring system!!!) which is bigger than that, but not by much. So I went to Lowes and bought a 7/16 bit to finish them with. After drilling one hole and testing the bolt the hole is a little big, I probably should have gotten a 13/32 (or 25/64) if such a thing exists. I think I will file the other holes larger but I’m not sure if I can leave with this size or I need a new part.

My replacement parts came for the centre console and a lull in the extreme heat (if not the humidity) allowed me to spend a little time finishing this up.
