First thing today was to determine what was wrong with the radiator brackets and it didn’t take Allen 15 seconds to point out that I had put the radiator on backwards. The radiator doesn’t have a right way up, but I had missed that it has a right way around. Actually, if I had skipped ahead to the next part, it would have been obvious because the hose outlet would have been on the wrong side. Moving on….<\/p>\n

The mounting bracket on the passenger side now sits nicer on the radiator but it is still very close to the fuel pump vent (which I assume I have to put some hose on) so Allen gave it a talking to with Mr Hammer so that it didn’t interfere as much. We probably need to grind some more of that out.<\/p>\n

We also loosened the exhaust assembly and pushed it around so that the passenger side tubes were further away from the radiator, leaving us with a much better gap. I still think I should firesleeve some of the hose near the exhaust, and probably heat wrap parts of the exhaust too, just to be sure.<\/p>\n

The hose from the radiator to the water pump comes out and down under the engine. Much easier to get this hose onto the right parts, each join getting a clamp and some safety wire.<\/p>\n

One thing you’ll notice here is that changing the oil filter will require removing the radiator hose. Not very good planning!<\/p>\n

The other line came round the side and to the back (and into what I don’t remember!!).<\/p>\n

Once all the parts are installed we will definitely review hose routes, stand offs and other burning\/rubbing hazards, but for now it looks like a good start.<\/p>\n

There’s a tube that goes from the engine to the expansion bottle.<\/p>\n

After that we located the hole for the fuel line to come through the firewall into the gascolator. This is a bit weird because the gascolator sits against the firewall in such a way that the fuel line barb angles down into the cockpit so it is quite a tight space to install the fuel line.<\/p>\n

We riveted it on to the firewall but I didn’t take a picture. We also looked at the fuel pump but I felt we had to wait so that I could look at the instructions for the fuel flow monitor in case there were special instructions. There are: it has to go downstream of the pump but below the fuel line from the engine.<\/p>\n

Lastly, looking for things to do, I drilled the holes for the rectifier install<\/p>\n

This isn’t actually how I ended up doing it, but it makes for a better looking picture than the paper cutout I made. I didn’t have bolts to install it on the firewall yet but it is ready to go. No, I have no idea what wires go in there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
