Day 12: Install ribs to right inboard slat (1h 35m)

In what is becoming a common start to the build day, the first task we deburring all the holes, applying our primer and then re-assembling everything for riveting.

Before Christmas I bought a compressor so that we could use the air gun for riveting – that box of 3000 rivets is scary! – so we hooked it up today and… nothing. There was no air pressure being built up by the compressor. I couldn’t work out what was wrong so I gave up and got out the trusty hand gun and riveted all of those rivets by hand.

The next step is to fold the skin over the ribs and cleco the top skin to the pre-drilled holes in the ribs. This proved to be much more difficult than the instructions or video suggested. The skin has to bent around the shape of the ribs and at the same time you have to find the holes to put the clecos into. After some messing around and getting nowhere we gave up and I posted a help on the builder’s forum.
