Fuel Leak

It has been pretty quiet on the blog as mostly it is too damn hot to do anything (having some unpleasant humidity to go with the heat) and really all I’ve been doing is try to get some engine time in, taxi around.

But this weekend I opened the hangar door to the smell of gasoline, a small puddle on the floor and this under the wing.

Passenger wing fuel leak

It looks like the leak is inside the wing so I am almost certainly going to have to remove at least one wing top skin panel and look inside. Hopefully it will be a leaky connection on the fuel line or one of the sender screws. Only other thing it could be is the tank leaking where I plugged the fuel return up or, heaven forbid, a crack in the tank. Those would not be fun to fix.

Whatever the cause, next week is my transition training in Tennessee so I can’t get to it for a fortnight. I’m therefore going to see about pushing my inspection back a week or two.

In other news I’ve bought some replacement springs for the carburettors on the engine. These have half the tension in them as the stock but will still pull the engine to full throttle in the event of a cable snap. These should stop the throttle cable from being slowly pulled in when the engine is at high revs.

Only other thing I would like to do is get the brakes properly worn in, and to do a full rpm test to see what our max is. I need to get 5800 rpm at full throttle.
