Reinstalling the Rear Angle (1hr 30m)

If we revisit the finished skeleton and take a look at the rear angle on the rear channel

which you can see on top of the channel to the right of the strut support, it didn’t seem right to me that a skin would sit on that properly; it wouldn’t lay flat on the channel. I looked at the drawings and sure enough it should have gone inside the channel (“check your plans!”), so today we spent about 90 minutes taking out around 50 rivets, of which 5 were an absolute bastard to get out. We also had to unrivet the affected ribs so that we could slide the angle behind them.

Not fun.

When we were done, we got the outboard bottom skin out to place on the skeleton but we could not get it to line up with the rib holes and not get a bump in the skin. We messed around with it for a long time, tempers rose and in the end I walked out on the job to face it again on a better day.

On an administrvia note, I am no longer putting the day count in the titles as it doesn’t seem in any way meaningful. Indeed, I’ve been told by many people not to count hours either but I’ll continue to do that
