Today Allen was back to help with what I hoped would be the final installation of the windscreen. But first we did a bunch of little things
The fuel overflow line is now routed down the mount and out the cowling
And the oil overflow is notched per the instructions
Both hoses were then cut just below the cowling
(I think that photo wins this week’s wtf is going on in this pic award)
The ELT harness got screwed in
And then we went to the windscreen. To cut a medium length story short the top holes did not line up very well, and yet ages ago when they were drilled they were pretty good I thought. So the holes in the window got enlarged and angled towards the cabin frame hole and eventually there were screws all the way across.
For good effect we put the cowl back on for the picture
Not sure why I don’t have any close up pictures of the top attachment, maybe I will take some for next time.
After lunch I returned and riveted the top window to the attachment that connects to the windscreen. I used the wrong rivets at first, so had to take them out and put the proper ones in.
I think the lower corner of the windscreen is too long and so it is not in tight to the fuselage. To take care of this, on both sides, I drilled a hole for a screw.
Next I hooked up the ELT to the antenna and did the very first test
Using my hand held radio I tuned into 121.5 and was rewarded with the dulcet tones of the emergency beacon going off. Note in the logbook and installed into the harness.
The ELT came with a beacon registration form so I took care of that online when I got home.
